“Dr. Adriel A. Hilton is director of the Extended Campus, Myrtle Beach Metropolitan at Webster University. As the chief administrative officer for the extended campus, he is charged with implementing programs and policies that achieve the overall goals and objectives of the University. Most recently, Dr. Hilton has held positions at Grambling State University where he was chief of staff and executive assistant to the President and at Western Carolina University where he was an assistant professor and director of the Higher Education Student Affairs program.
Hilton’s experience also includes serving as the inaugural assistant vice president for inclusion initiatives at Grand Valley State University (GVSU). His responsibilities included consulting, advising, and providing support and informational re- sources on the subjects of diversity and inclusion to all levels of administration, faculty and staff. Additionally, he acted as a liaison to GVSU’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, Women’s Center, and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center. Dr. Hilton honed his expertise in higher education administration and teaching at Upper Iowa University (UIU) as executive assistant to the President and assistant secretary to the Board of Trustees. He was the school’s first ever chief diversity officer and an adjunct faculty member at both UIU and the University of Northern Iowa during this period.
Following completion of his doctoral work, Dr. Hilton was selected as a Frederick Douglass Teaching Scholar at Clarion University of Pennsylvania where he taught as a member of the faculty and developed academic programs within the Office of the Provost. Prior to that, he served as the initial public policy fellow at the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC), the leading visionary, resourceful and action-oriented group of private-sector leaders in the Baltimore region. Hilton worked closely with policy advisors at the GBC to research, develop, and advocate a public policy agenda related to the organiza- tion’s work on such issues as economic growth, commercial revitalization, regional transportation, education and work- force preparedness, public safety, and access to health care.
Dr. Hilton’s distinguished career includes many honors and awards, notably, the 2016 Harry Canon Outstanding Profes- sional Award by the ACPA Coalition on Men & Masculinities; the 2016 Newly Published Research Award by NASPA’s Men and Masculinities Knowledge Community; the 2015 Melvene Draheim Hardee Award by the Southern Association for College Student Affairs; the 2015 Sadie M. Yancey Professional Service Award by the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals; the 2015 Outstanding Professional Contribution & Distinguished Scholar Award by the North Car- olina College Personnel Association; the 2013 Michael A. Powell, Esq. Service Award by the National Black Graduate Student Association; the 2013 Joseph H. Silver, Sr., Leadership and Mentoring Initiative Alumni Award by the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education; Florida A&M University’s 2012 Outstanding Alumni of the Quasquicentennial Award; the 2010 Dr. Carlos J. Vallejo Memorial Award for Exemplary Scholarship by the American Educational Research Association Multicultural/Multiethnic Special Interest Group; the 2009 Outstanding Research Award by the American College Personnel Association Standing Committee for Men; the Ebony magazine 2009 Top Young Leaders Under 30 Award; and, the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education 2009 Outstanding Doctoral Student award for his doctoral dissertation.
