Senior Strategist, AKQA

“Sam Beresford is from Charlotte, NC. He is the son of parents who met in the 1960s on the streets of Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco and passed along deep commitments to diversity, open-minded- ness, social justice, learning, and cultural richness; the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, by nature instilling in him a keen awareness of the dangers of intolerance; and a product of Charlotte-Meck- lenburg Schools, which during the time he attended was one of the most thoroughly ethnically and socioeconomically integrated public school systems in the nation. (While a bit more in-depth than most of the intros in this series, all of this is crucial in understanding how Sam ended up at 830 Westview.)

After graduating from Morehouse, Sam taught physical science to 6th graders (and coached basket- ball) as a Teach For America corps member, serving Atlanta Public Schools students from the Pitts- burgh, Mechanicsville, and Summerhill neighborhoods. From there, he moved to New York City and interned at a music & culture magazine, wrote for a men’s style & culture magazine, managed and was a buyer for a women’s clothing boutique in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, and worked in sales & showroom management in fashion.

Sam’s career in marketing began in earnest upon his return to Atlanta. His first stops were at J. Wal- ter Thompson and BBDO, advertising agencies where he developed social media campaigns for the United States Marine Corps and AT&T & U-verse, respectively. Transitioning into brand planning, Sam moved to Moxie, where he created social media & digital strategies for Nike Women and Wells Fargo.

Sam is currently a Sr. Strategist at AKQA, an “ideas and innovation company” consistently recog- nized as a leading global digital marketing agency. At AKQA, Sam uses his diverse background and boundless curiosity to craft insights that spark creative ideas for the future of brand experiences for clients like Delta and Coca-Cola. Sam also recently played a key role in a successful new business pitch for a major digital (and beyond) engagement with one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. Additionally, Sam consults small businesses and startups on brand development and mar- keting strategy.
